While bromine is effective for microorganism control, the present delivery forms suffer from various problems ranging from health and safety issues to high cost. Given the advantages of bromine for biological control, WTS introduced making bromine at the use location and has released a cost effective technology to do this, our patent pending ElectroBrom Biocide System tm.

Using a unique, low cost impregnated graphite electrode or coated platinum electrode and obtaining a conversion efficiency better than 95%, the ElectroBrom Biocide System tm presents an economically attractive, low environmental impact alternative to current technology for control of troublesome cooling water micro-organisms.

Environmental Benefits

In comparison to current technology, the ElectroBrom Biocide System tm: Uses a non-toxic precursor, eliminating toxic chemical transport accidents and spills.

·         Bromine is produced only as needed and added directly to the cooling tower, no risk of accidental toxic chemical spills from chemicals in inventory or during handling.

·         Produced bromine degrades in the cooling water back to harmless bromide within a short time period, reducing environmental impact from toxic chemicals in cooling tower blowdown. As a consequence it is again available to be converted to hypobromous acid and therefore recycled.

·         Bromine has substantially higher water solubility than chlorine, ozone, and chlorine dioxide; reducing air pollution and allowing a lower effective dose.
